In this article, we’ll explore the tools and digital platforms I’ve found most valuable over the years for fundamental analysis, technical analysis and portfolio performance tracking.
Finding a platform that offers up-to-date data, key indicators, and valuation methods for public companies worldwide—while also being user-friendly—can be tough. After years of trying different options, I discovered one that truly exceeded my expectations in both usability and comprehensiveness.
For technical analysis, the key is finding the right tools and interface to visualize and interpret market movements. Fortunately, I had an easier time pinpointing platforms that met my needs here.
Finally, tracking portfolio performance can be tricky, especially with multiple investments across asset classes or markets. Luckily, I found tools that simplify this process and highlight areas for improvement.
So, here are the topics we will cover on this article:
Platforms for Technical Analysis
Platforms for Fundamental Analysis
Platforms for Portfolio Performance tracking
Let’s break them down with a focus on what matters most for individual investors and traders.

Technical Analysis
TradingView - 💡 Personal Recommendation
Website: tradingview.com
Getting Started: tradingview.com/support
Best For: Beginners to Savvy traders who want simple but powerful tools for analyzing charts.
What it Offers:
Easy-to-use charts with tons of tools like indicators, trendlines, and drawing options.
Real-time price data for the US markets and other markets (depends on the exchange and most of delayed price data is around 15min).
A community where traders share their ideas and strategies.
You can even test out your own trading scripts using their Pine Script tool. For documentation and support, here.
🧠 Personal Thoughts (Free Tier version):
I started using TradingView three years ago while searching for customizable technical chart options and it turned out to be a game-changer 👇
Pros:
Very user-friendly, even for beginners (though the array of tools can feel overwhelming initially).
Packed with built-in indicators, tools, ideas and scripts shared by other traders.
Short load times ensure a smooth experience.
Free plan provides everything a beginner needs to get started.
Cons:
Free version includes ads and lacks premium features like multiple chart displays.
Real-time data is restricted for certain markets unless you upgrade.
⚠️ A key limitation for new users: Free plans now allow only 1 watchlist with a maximum of 30 symbols (down from 100 symbols and multiple watchlists previously available).
My Usage: I personally stick to the free version since I’m grandfathered into the old setup with two watchlists (100 stocks each). However, for new users, the free tier’s limitations may push some to consider their paid subscriptions. The Essential Plan at $12.95/month seems like a reasonable upgrade for active traders (more details of their pricing plans, here).

Fundamental Analysis
Finchat.io - 💡 Personal Recommendation
Website: finchat.io
Getting Started: finchat.io/help/
Best For: Beginners to Savvy Investors
What it Offers:
Tools for both fundamental analysis (KPIs, financial data segments, valuation metrics, DCF modeling, etc.) and qualitative analysis by analyzing management commentary, guidance, and market sentiment.
AI-powered financial assistant for investors.
Offers quick summaries and insights extracted from large sets of financial documents.
Allows users to query financial statements, earnings reports, and filings (e.g., SEC 10-Ks and 10-Qs).
🧠 Personal Thoughts (Free Tier version):
Pros:
One of the most complete free-to-use platforms for fundamental analysis, offering updated and accurate data, detailed summaries, and insights presented through tables, dashboards, and various types of graphics on publicly listed companies worldwide.
The inclusion of an AI-powered ChatGPT-like financial assistant makes the research experience even more efficient and valuable.
Its easy-to-use user interface, combined with a very responsive and proactive technical support team, makes it a game-changer for individual investors with an actively managed portfolio.
Cons:
Limited capabilities for ETFs and Funds analysis and insights.
The Free Tier version restricts access to:
5 Years & 6 Quarters of Financials
2 Years & 2 Quarters of KPI Data
Only 1 dashboard for Watchlist or Portfolio tracking
A limited number of prompts to their ChatGPT-like financial assistant
I personally use the Premium version (Plus Tier) to bypass some of these restrictions, which costs $20/month on a yearly subscription with my 20% discount. If you're interested, Expanse Stocks has an agreement with FinChat, allowing you to enjoy this 20% discount (+ 2 months free) on any FinChat plan: 👉 Claim Your Discount Here

Portfolio Performance Tracking
I don’t have a unanimous pick here. As a European, I have limited access to some excellent US-only tools. Instead, I use a combination of three different free-tier tools alongside my broker’s built-in portfolio tracking tool (with Interactive Brokers) to monitor my portfolio and overall assets performance—making the most out of each option.
Getquin - Best for Free tier plan
Website: getquin.com
German start-up
What it Offers (Free plan):
Free portfolio tracker for stocks, ETFs, crypto, and more.

Best For: Investors who want a free tool with both tracking features and social interaction.
Pros:
Clean and user-friendly interface.

Social features allow you to compare and discuss portfolios with others.
Cons:
Limited advanced analytics for professional investors.
Some features may not be available in all countries.
Manually adding trades can become slow and tedious if you’re not syncing your portfolio with your broker.
Occasionally, high load times can also disrupt the user experience, making it less seamless.
